Abstract
Modern software solutions in the field of modeling casting processes make it possible to significantly reduce production costs by conducting virtual simulations of key casting processes, such as filling the mold with alloy, crystallization and cooling processes, which helps reduce the time required to develop the technology, test technical solutions for each specific casting, optimize material consumption, increase the yield, etc. However, sometimes the results of modeling casting processes show significant deviations from practical tests. Thus, improving the convergence of modeling casting process results and practical tests is an urgent task. The aim of the work is to reveal the capabilities of the LVMflow software product and to improve the convergence results of mathematical modeling and practical tests. The work uses methods of computer modeling, computed tomography, and the results of field tests. The article presents comparative results of computer modeling of casting processes using the example of a cast workpiece “bracket” made of AK8L aluminum alloy, with the use of the LVMflow 4.5 and 6.65 software package for modeling casting processes in various resulting fields. Dependencies between the modeling results in various resulting fields and the locations where defects occur have been established. The process of optimizing the technology using low pressure casting, based on the modeling results, and the results of practical application are presented.
