Abstract

The results of research on the possibility of using silicon production waste in the form of silicon slag instead of ferrosilicon in the smelting of steel and cast iron are presented. Laboratory studies have established the chemical and phase composition of silicon slag, which contains about 80% silicon by chemical composition and is part of such basic phases as silicon carbide, quartz and cristobalite, amorphous silica, calcium oxides, aluminum, carbon inclusions and elemental silicon. During experimental smelting, the possibility of using silicon production waste in the smelting of cast iron and steel was established, while the absorption coefficient of silicon in the form of silicon slag was 15% lower than when using ferrosilicon FS75.
