Abstract
The results of study on the effect of alloying on the abrasive wear resistance of binary iron-based alloys containing C, Si, Mn, Cr, Nb, and B are presented. The regularities of wear resistance variation depending on the chemical composition and structural state of the alloys have been established. Series of alloying elements have been constructed according to their influence on the wear resistance of iron for low-, medium-, and high-alloyed alloys. It has been shown that in the region of solid solutions, wear resistance increases with increasing alloying element concentration up to the solubility limit, whereas in heterophase structures it is an additive quantity determined by the matrix type and the properties of the structural constituents.
