Abstract
The article generalizes typical causes of unstable thickener performance: unsteady feed, flocculation mode and mixing condition disturbances, phase boundary fluctuations, hydrodynamic circulations, rheological complications of the sediment, mechanical overloads and wear. Areas for improvement have been identified: increasing the specific productivity of equipment, transitioning to denser thickening modes, intensifying sedimentation through modernization of feed and distribution units, improving the quality of reagent preparation and dosing, strengthening and diagnostics of drives and scraper mechanisms, developing integrated control and automation based on an expanded set of measurements and data analysis. It has been shown that for enterprises in the Arctic zone, the stability of the operating regime, reduction of operational risks, and reproducibility of the quality of clarified overflow and thickened product are critical under conditions of limited maintenance resources, high downtime costs, and the increased cost of deviations from the technological regime.
