Abstract
The results of laboratory experiments on the study of the influence of the size of lime supplied to the mixture of iron ore components of the agglomeration charge on the performance of the agglomeration process and sinter quality are presented. It was found that under relatively constant experimental conditions, the indicators of pelletizing, agglomeration process and sinter strength when using coarse lime (10-20 mm) deteriorate. The obtained results are explained mainly by the increase in the uneven distribution of lime throughout the volume of the batch, which affects the results of pelletizing (an increase in the proportion of large fractions of 5-10 and +10 mm) and a decrease in the strength of the granules (in the raw state and during the sintering process). A direct consequence is an increased softening of the sintered charge layer and a drop in gas permeability, which affects both the sintering rate and specific productivity, as well as the thermal conditions of sintering and sinter strength properties.
