Abstract
In a highly competitive domestic and global market public joint stock company "Magnitogorsk iron and steel works» solves interrelated problems of increasing production, improving product quality and continuous updating of the range in accordance with the needs of consumers. The solution of the listed tasks is possible on condition of continuous improvement of technological processes at all stages of metallurgical production. Part of this improvement is the introduction of decision support systems (DSS), which allow to find the most appropriate solutions based on a combination of theoretical knowledge and practical experience. The problems of development of decision support systems in the steelmaking process using the methodology of knowledge engineering are considered. A prototype of a decision support system including calculation modules and a knowledge base for metallurgical processes based on the ontological paradigm is described.
